More Than Just a Man…
It is not too early to be thinking about Easter,
as a matter of fact I would like you to think
about it a lot. Each person that calls Groton
Assembly of God their Church home has an
opportunity to reach out and invite unsaved
family members and friends to this
incredible dramatic Easter musical.
We have over 30 adults, youth and children
from our church family preparing to present this very
powerful and evangelistic musical drama that will bring to
life the ministry of Jesus … from the time He was twelve to
His death and resurrection. The message of salvation is very
clear, and everyone that comes will be moved and stirred to
a place of examining their own lives.
Please start praying for this production and start inviting
Family and friends.
If you are looking for a way to help serve, donate props,
donate material for costumes or building a set, sew, etc…
please see me as soon as possible. I have teams in place for
wardrobe, set-
Thank you for your prayers and support for this incredible
opportunity! Start making your phone calls now and invite,
invite, invite. There will be four performances; Friday,
April 2nd at 7:00 p.m., Saturday, April 3rd at 7:00 p.m., and
Easter Sunday, April 4th at 8:00 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.
Don’t miss this Month’s Presentation of...
Power To Change Lives
They were the first. Late at night sitting around a kitchen table in Little York or sitting in their armchairs in their living room, they would begin. Three adults, all older than I. The couple’s son would be nearby, younger than I. No matter the weather outside—hot and humid or hot and clear or dark and threatening or just plain dark because of the lateness of the hour—the house filled with joy, with light, with something new to me.
They might begin quietly at first, like a murmur, maybe with a song, but the joy couldn’t be held back, and soon their faces tipped somewhat upward, their voices rose. Vowels, syllables, words, beautiful sounds. I could only listen.
Tongues, they called it. A prayer language God had given them. Sure, they prayed in English some, but the Spirit always moved them toward what they called a heavenly language. Tongues. My first baptism was not in water nor in fire but in God’s Presence, in His peace and joy with friends who found me in despair. They could only have been led by the Spirit. Not even my family knew my sorrow, my depression, or my thoughts of giving up.
They were the first. The first to tell me they were born-
During those visits that summer I became Pentecostal, even though I didn’t know the meaning of the word, even though they didn’t teach it to me. Instead, they lived a life of joy and expectation that attracted me to our Savior and Lord, Christ Jesus.
Since that summer of 1983, I have tasted that joy such as David experienced (Psalm
16:11); felt God’s overpowering Presence, as did John (Revelation 1:17) and Ezekiel
(Ezekiel: 1:28); experienced the joy of the Spirit baptism, as Joel prophesied (Joel
2:28-
Friends, these manifestations are real, are Biblical, are for today, and are for our benefit. The church that obeys God, loves others, and seeks His fullness will be operating in them and have greater power in witnessing, teaching, and holy living. Let us seek His Spirit more fully. Let us ask to be baptized with His Spirit. Let us ask to be refilled. Let us fill the sanctuary during worship with songs of the Spirit, with tongues, as well as with hymns and choruses. You see, as we pray in tongues during worship, we pray in the Holy Spirit, through the Holy Spirit, to our Father as He wishes—according to His will. And, yes, we build ourselves up. Let us also pray for more messages in tongues during the quiet times and ask now for their interpretation so that God may speak to the needs of the day in the lives of our people. Let us ask God for prophesy so that all who enter may understand and be built up.
But friends, if we are going to seek God for these things, we must be increasingly seeking to live holy lives, as He is holy. We must obey what He has shown us. We must be asking Him to break our hearts for the lost, and we must be witnessing to others about Jesus.
Two of these people about whom I have shared have been called home by our Father
to their reward, but so many other people are in despair and ready to give up. Will
you join me in asking God for opportunity to meet them and for His power so that
those moments will be life-
